You know that feeling when you left a place for more than a year and here comes the time you come back to that place, and you notice real changes - a new building is up, roads have been fixed, more houses, etc, and you just get amazed by all the transformation.

I just got that feeling in Guild Wars 2. I mean, not all games do this. In my previous games, whenever I went inactive and decides to come back for a while, the game is still the same - the maps and all. That’s totally not the case in Guild Wars 2!

In Tyria, it’s like everything is pretty similar to real life - the places change. You don’t notice right away that something got added, or something went missing. This really amazed me!

I was strolling around Divinity’s Reach and found these stuff which I knew were never there before. Wow~

Most annoying enemy

I’ve got two. For normal fighting enemies I hate dredge most of all. They can hit you from far away, go underground, and have all sorts of annoying conditions. It’s perhaps for this reason alone I think Dostoev Sky Peak in Dregehaunt Cliffs is my least favorite area in the game. I hate it so much. (Also those noises they make.)

As for ambient enemies my most hated are ice wurms. I can never seem to get the dodge right to miss their icy stone attack. It’s even worse if you get in a pack of them. Bastards.

Favorite non-playable race

This is probably a total cop out but I’ll have to say tengu. None of the other non-playable races really interest me much outside of their basic concepts. Tengu have interested me since we met them in GW1 and now that they occupy what used to be Sanctum Cay I’m even more eager to see what’s behind that wall.

I’m rooting for them hardest as candidates for a playable race too. Given some of the concept art I think the customization options could probably rival sylvari if done right and I’d love to see another ‘beast’ race.

Also I never quite realized how big some of them were. (See compared to a max height/weight sylvari for comparison.) Also I love them because of the guy in front of the Caledon gate who is apparently named Hayato. Guy just wants something to do

Not sure there was ever a more perfect backpiece for her.

ArenaNet.

Are you really trying to tell me your game was so confusing to new players that you now need to force people to play one skill at a time until level 7, where you let them have an off-hand weapon for the first time, and that you don’t give them any utility skill…

Unfortunately, this is a classic case of punishing the good guy for doing nothing wrong.

Arena Net is trying to stop people from key farming. But rather than just making it where you can no longer acquire a key at level 10, they need to make it tedious as hell to reach level 10 before you can actually do anything in the game.

Honestly, since I currently do not own my own guild wars 2 account, I probably never will if Arena Net keeps it up with these updates. There are plenty of other MMOs out there that allow me to participate in the story while leveling right out of character creation. I know Arena Net is trying to do things differently with their game… but telling new players they have restrictions right out of the gate in a non-subscription based MMO is going to drive people away in an instant. I’m on the verge of being driven away, but I’m looking to see if there’s any kind of redemption that can come out of this recent patch of theirs that might encourage me to overlook these details.

Preach.

Favorite Map

Frostgorge Sound

I don’t know what exactly it is about this zone that enchants me so much. Some of it is downright annoying, mostly the dredge areas (Groznev Delve) and the glacial scar running down the right side of the zone. But there’s just something about it, a sort of beauty that enchants; serene despite the danger. Maybe it’s that it reminds me of Skyrim and memories of watching the aurora play over the Sea of Ghosts. (I’m sure it doesn’t help that I have Skyrim music in my custom GW2 playlists.)

I absolutely love the underwater parts of this zone. I don’t know if they’re the deepest ones in the game but just stepping off an iceberg and looking down into the depths and seeing this… It takes the breath away. The trench in Dimotiki Waters is perhaps my absolute favorite place in the entire game.

You also can’t forget the kodan sanctuaries. Each one is huge and imposing but once you’re inside (discounting HoTW, of course) they feel welcoming and as warm as one could get on a gigantic floating iceberg.

There are also memories here. Yak’s Bend, Borlis Pass, Iron Horse Mine. I love searching the world of GW2 for historical places and while the ones in this zone might not be the most interesting they’re still there.

So, come for the Claw, stay for the scenery.

Favorite Profession

Ranger. I know the profession has it’s problems but it was the first one that really spoke to me and it’s been one of my mains for a long time. I love the gotta catch em all feel when it came to charming all the pets, exploring different maps to find them. Even if the pet mechanics are still a bit buggy it adds a fun element to be able to switch between them to fit your situation. Getting up from downed is also amazing with ranger, if you know how to manage your pet properly. (Good pet management makes the class infinitely better.) I like that you can play melee as effectively as bow, as I’m a fan of sword and GS. I also really love the spirit animations you get when using certain skills, esp the shark one with the spear underwater. I know ranger is pretty under appreciated, but I just love it.

About the images: Here you have it: every pet in the game. Making these composites was one of my more harebrained ideas and even if it had me gross sobbing by the end it was a fun challenge and I’m glad I stuck it out. Now you know why it took me a week to get this one out.
